ToothPaste usage depends on

1.Age of the child

2.Swallowing ability of the child

3.Caries risk

4.Fluoride usage

Age of the child:

Below 3 years

Below 3 years of age and in non caries risk, child is adviced to use non fluoridated toothpaste

Eg:Ethiaspire toddler

In case of caries, child is adviced to use fluoridated tooth paste

Eg:GC toothmosse plus

Recommended for daily twice usage until they master the habit of spitting

Recommended size:  size of a single rice grain or smear shaped.

From 3 years to 6 years

Adviced fluoridated toothpaste daily twice

In case of higher caries risk,adviced fluoride of 1000 ppm

 eg Pediflor 1000

In case of low caries risk,adviced fluoride of 500-700 ppm

 eg: cheerio gel, Pediflor Day and night kit, Dentoshine kids, Kidodent gel

Recommended for daily twice usage

Recommended size:Half pea size

Above 6 years

Adviced fluoride tooth paste of 1500 ppm in case of higher caries risk

eg:Cuprax kids,Sensodyne pronamel  kids(watermelon and mint flavours)

Adviced fluoride tooth paste of 1000 ppm in case of low caries risk

eg:Pediflor 1000

Recommended for daily twice usage

Non floridated tooth pastes:

If the child has dental fluorosis, content of fluoride supplementation in the form of paste should be reduced.

In such cases

High caries risk: eg:

GC tooth mosse(made of casein-milk peptide)- not indicated in cases of lactose intolerance

Enafix Pro gel -calcium phosphate derivative

Low caries risk:

1.Enafix gel- can be used in patients who are undergoing orthodontic treatment
